The Standard 4Cs: Color

Diamonds range from colorless to light yellow, using a D to Z color scale.

Apart from the most intense fancy color diamonds, the rarest – and therefore most valuable – diamonds are colorless.

‘Colorless’ diamonds D, E, and F show so little difference that only experts using master reference diamonds of known grades can distinguish one from another. Near colorless G, H, I and J begin to show faint hints of color only when compared with diamonds higher up the scale. K, L and M will show hints of color when compared against a pure white background. Color variations can be so slight that color grading is conducted by experts under controlled lighting conditions using a master set for accuracy. De Beers Forevermark diamonds are scrutinized to determine micro-variations in depth of color. De Beers Forevermark inscribes diamonds from D to L (from D to Y-Z color for 2.00ct and larger) as well as all fancy colors. Diamonds two carats and above can be any color as long as they pass the De Beers Forevermark test for beauty and all other criteria. All De Beers Forevermark diamonds are graded in a controlled lighting environment to ensure maximum accuracy.

Beyond the 4Cs

At De Beers Forevermark, we go beyond the standard 4Cs, individually selecting diamonds against additional rigid criteria to ensure that only the most beautiful diamonds can become De Beers Forevermark.
