Diamond certification, insurance and integrity guide

Diamond engagement ring guide

Diamond Certification

When buying a diamond engagement ring, make sure it comes with a recognized international certificate. Diamond certification or a grading report is a document provided by expert gemologist who assess the quality of a diamond, including its cut, clarity, polish and dimensions. The De Beers Group Institute of Diamonds, the De Beers Group Industry Services and the GIA are among the world’s leading diamond grading bodies.

De Beers Forevermark grading certificates from De Beers Group Industry Services provide more in-depth information on the cut, clarity, color and caratage of the diamond. The information contained on a De Beers Forevermark grading certificate will have been evaluated using world-class proprietary diamond processes and technology in the De Beers Group Institute of Diamonds in Belgium, UK or India.

Some diamonds also have a laser inscribed unique identification number which denotes that the diamond you buy adheres to strict industry guidelines and represents a commitment to integrity.

Diamond engagement ring insurance

Aside from paying for your wedding, investing in a car or purchasing a house, buying a diamond engagement ring can be one of the most significant purchases you make in a lifetime. Engagement rings may be removed for sporting activities, for cleaning or to protect them, which means they are susceptible to being misplaced or stolen.

The sentimental value of your engagement ring is without doubt priceless, but in the unfortunate event that you and your ring become separated or your ring becomes damaged, it is comforting to know that its monetary value can be protected. Your jeweler will be able to advise on the best engagement ring insurance, or you can seek independent advice. Make sure you keep all your documentation and receipts somewhere safe. You may also need to get a valuation from your jeweler for most diamond insurance. For added reassurance, De Beers Forevermark offers a diamond registration service which enables you to you to access your diamond details at any time.

Responsibly sourced

The De Beers Forevermark inscription that lies at the heart of all our diamonds is a unique symbol of our promise that each diamond is beautiful, rare and responsibly sourced. As De Beers Forevermark diamonds pass along the pipeline we keep careful track of them to ensure that each and every one is natural, untreated and conflict free. These strict controls are independently verified by an organisation called Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) – the largest independent third party auditor in the world and a specialist in ethical supply chains.

Purchasing a diamond engagement ring is not only the ultimate symbol of your love for your life-partner, but also a statement of commitment to fair trade, environmental protection and employee rights.
