Protecting Forever:
Shih Li-Jen's Rhino
Taiwanese artist and curator Shih Li-Jen has been using rhinos as creative inspiration for over twenty years.
Taiwanese born artist and curator, Shih Li-Jen explores what Forever means to him.
A celebrated artist in both Taiwan and China, Li-Jen is most well-known for his artwork that has been inspired by the culture of the rhino. With his work winning the Art and Business Awareness award from the Taiwan Council for Culture Affairs in both 2004 and 2006.
Like De Beers Forevermark, Li-Jen is committed to the preservation and protection of habitats, their species and the wider natural world. Being one of the most precious treasures of Chinese civilisation, and facing extinction, Li-Jen hopes that his rhino inspired art will draw people’s attention to this reality and encourage the protection of rhinos.
For Li-Jen, Forever is the art that he creates. It’s the work that goes into creating a powerful piece of artwork that will live on long after we’re gone. It’s the messages that we leave behind that we hope will continue to be communicated. This is something that Li-Jen hopes to achieve in his own work with the protection and conservation of rhinos.
De Beers Forevermark was delighted to collaborate with Shih Li-Jen for World Rhino Day to discuss the inspiration behind his work and the protection of Forever.
