Micaela commences the conversation by revealing the incredible journey that has led her to where she is today, dressing the likes of Meryl Streep, Lupita Nyong’o, Common and everyone in between. “I went to Parsons School of Design, where I got a business degree. And it was through my education there and their emphasis on internships where I got my first taste of what it was to be a stylist and sort of what the fashion industry had to offer. And I had found myself interning season after season, semester after semester, at various magazines working in the Fashion Closet.”
Having sparked her passion for styling, and through her experience working as an assistant to the late stylist Annabel Tollman, Micaela’s eyes were opened to the glamorous world of the red carpet. This gave her the fundamentals and skills to pursue a career in fashion and land her first client, Michelle Dockery, for her first major awards season in 2013. It was through this partnership that led Micaela to the opportunity of dressing Lupita Nyong’o for the season that saw her win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and hailed a style star.
At the end of that wild run, I landed on the cover of the Hollywood Reporter, sandwiched between Michelle Dockery and Lupita Nyong’o as one of the most powerful stylists in Hollywood. And my world changed.
When building her career, as part of her ethos, it was incredibly important to Micaela to have a diverse client list, working with men and women of different ages, races, shapes and sizes. Micaela believes that fashion should be celebrated in all of its forms and that it's universal. However, with this comes responsibility, especially when working with young, emerging talent. “I have worked with some actors and actresses who are very, very young, you have even more responsibility because you're really shaping their public image and there is a lot of responsibility that comes with that. But overall, I'm really proud of the diverse client range that I have.”
With a history of dressing movie stars for some of their most important moments and milestones, in 2019, it was only fitting that Micaela expanded her work to include luxury bridal styling. “I saw a gap in the market, and I decided to expand my business. I realized that there were so many similarities and parallels between getting ready for the red carpet and walking down the aisle.”
Alongside the success of expanding into bridal styling, it was a dream come true for Micaela to launch the Forevermark x Micaela bridal capsule collection. Made up of beautiful, modern yet timeless diamond engagement rings and wedding bands, each ring is set exclusively in platinum. “I wanted to make sure that the pieces I designed would be something that were treasured forever.”
I think that jewelry is just so personal, and it has to be authentic to you and to the person who is wearing it or giving it. I wanted to make sure that there was something for everyone and I believe that with the Forevermark x Micaela Collection, there is just that.
